There is much to love about Thailand – it’s diverse culture and history; the friendly locals; not to forget the amazing food! However what draws many travellers here time and time again, is its abundance of postcard-perfect islands.
With over 5,000 miles of coastline waiting to be discovered, Thailand is a great place to go island hopping and explore as many beaches as possible.
Whether you’re happy to shack up in a bamboo beach hut or want to splash out on a luxury villa for a couple of weeks, Thailand’s beaches have something to fit everyone’s budget.
Here are just a few of my personal favourites…
Railay Beach, Krabi Province
Jagged limestone karsts, golden sandy beaches, curvaceous hillside jungles….yep, Thailand’s Railay Beach has it all. This small peninsula situated between Krabi and Ao Nang is a tropical paradise perfect for both the active adventurer and the lazy beach-bums. Whether you want to brave the cliffs and try your hand at rock climbing or chill on the beach with a cocktail in hand while marvelling at the epic scenery, Railay Beach is a must for anyone visiting Thailand.
Koh Phi Phi
Located between Krabi and Phuket, Koh Phi Phi has become one of Thailand’s major hot spots…and it’s easy to see why with its idyllic scenery. Rows upon rows of fishing boats line the white sand shores against a backdrop of clear turquoise waters, rugged rock formations, and swaying palm trees. A postcard scene synonymous with Thailand. To top things off, its vibrant town boasts many restaurants, bars and shops to keep you entertained when you want a break from the hammock!
Probably one of the most insane parties you will ever go to, the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan island is on most travellers’ Thailand bucket list. Every full moon, Haad Rin Beach transforms into a psychedelic rave, with thumping bass, fire dancers, and neon craziness for as far as the eye can see. But once the madness has subsided and the party-goers have moved on, there are still some tranquil spots waiting to be discovered in this pretty slice of paradise.
Koh Lanta should make the top of anyone’s island hopping itinerary around Thailand. What sets this island apart from the likes of its neighbouring islands, is its beautiful rustic charm and chilled out vibes – it’s the perfect place to hang up your hammock and get some much-needed relaxation after partying on Koh Phangan. Plus it has sunsets to die for! Hire a motorbike and you’ll discover so many hidden gems and deserted beaches on this underrated island.
