Hi! I’m Nikki!
Travelling and the desire to see more of the world has been ingrained in me since a very young age. Having grandparents who were big travellers and fortunate enough to live in places like Ghana, Tanzania and Bahrain, meant weekends staying with them were quite often filled with stories about their times abroad.
But it wasn’t until my early twenties that I was properly bitten by the travel bug after a six-week backpacking trip around Southeast Asia in 2005.
It is still to date, one of my favourite travel experiences so far, as it opened up my eyes to a whole new world beyond the tiny countryside village I lived in.
Since then, my love for travel has continued on and I’ve been fortunate enough to have many more adventures in Asia, Oceania, Europe, North America and Africa, where I stayed in Tanzania for five incredible months, volunteering with various NGOs including a local school and orphanage – a trip that ultimately changed the course of my life forever…
Where is Nikki now?
After returning to England for 18 months, the yearning to go back to Tanzania never really went away. Despite my best efforts to find my roots again in my home country, Africa was still calling and my heart longed to be back there.
So when a great job opportunity came up earlier this year, I decided to take the plunge and move there, with a dream to explore more of this incredible continent.
About the blog
What humbly started out as an online journal to share My RTW Travel Tales with family and friends back home (during a ten-month backpacking adventure in 2014/15), Where is Nikki? has now grown into a travel resource with the hope that it might inspire and help others to experience some of the things I have been fortunate enough to do over the last 12 years.
I talk A LOT about my time in Tanzania, but the blog covers quite a diverse range of topics from volunteering and solo backpacking adventures on a budget to luxury city breaks and everything else in between.
I hope you enjoy my stories, travel tips and photos as much as I enjoy sharing them. And do feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or just want to say hi. I’m always happy to hear from you!
